UK set for weekend DISRUPTION with HEAVY SNOW set to pummel Britain

A BBC NEWS Weather forecast announced Britain is set to experience another deluge of snow over the weekend, which could bring parts of the country to a standstill with heavy snowfalls and sub-zero temperatures.

BBC News Weather meteorologist Sarah Keith-Lucas warned Britain to prepare for widespread snow showers as a new easterly weather system approaches the country.

Government forecasters have warned people to prepare for travel disruption, power cuts and loss of mobile phone signals.

Rural communities risk being cut off by heavy snowfall and roads made impassible by frozen snow and ice.

The BBC Weather forecaster said: "Over the next few days snow and ice will become much more widespread. Disruption is likely as those temperatures are really set to plummet.

"Still some rain showers across parts of the Midlands, north-east England, some snow showers further north, particularly for eastern Scotland. Heading through tonight that snow will become a little more widespread as colder air moves in from the east."

Through Saturday night and into Sunday we could see a spell of heavier snow push across England and Wales which is expected to become prolonged and more intense on Saturday evening.

A yellow warning covers the east and south-east of the country throughout Saturday as the snow pushes further inland to parts of southern England and the capital.

Ms Keith-Lucas continued: "Many of us will see sub-zero temperatures to start the weekend. Still relatively mild across the south but as high pressure builds across Scandinavia through the weekend, we’re going to be drawing in this cold easterly wind.

"The wind chill is going to be a really significant factor in the weather as well as some snowfalls too. We start off Saturday with snow across much of southern England and south Wales too.
